CADC vs LAADC

Both are California SUD counselor certifications. LAADC is the advanced-tier credential; CADC is the standard-tier credential (with sub-tiers I/II/III at CCAPP).

Key structural differences

• Issuing body: CADC is issued by CCAPP, CADTP, or CAADE (as CATC). LAADC is issued only by CCAPP.
• Education: CADC tiers require certifying-organization-approved coursework. LAADC requires a master's degree.
• Regulatory status: Both are certifications, not licenses. DHCS approves the issuing organizations.
